SOAP Bible study method

One of my goals for this year was to read through the Bible. It’s weird that I have never done that before.

My husband and I are going through a reading plan together. (You can click the link above if you want a copy of it)

As much as I enjoy reading the different accounts side by side, I find myself getting lost in just reading and not getting anything out of it. I have decided to start the S.O.A.P method of Bible study.

It’s pretty simple, won’t take too much time and yet gives me a deeper look into what I am reading. Which I need if I am going to get anything out of it!

Here is my favorite Bible version to read.

Also, I make sure to have a trusty journal to write in.

Basically, S.O.A.P is:

I just started working through Ephesians using this method, it is so good!

What Bible study method do you use?

Thank you so much for linking to Sunday Stillness. This is an excellent post. We did something similar but it was the 5 Ps by Priscilla Sheerer. I like this – easier to remember.
May I use this idea and link to you when I write a post for Under the Cover of Prayer.
    Many blessings,

    Hi Becky!

Thanks for linking up with Sharing His Beauty at the Beauty in His Grip! I have just started a Bible study method this summer, too! In fact, I write about it each Friday! Anyway, it is similar to yours: I choose a scripture verse and read it in two versions. Then, I write them each down. Then, I write down a word from the scripture that “jumps” out at me and write out my thoughts, ideas and comments about it. Following this I pray (& write the prayer) and then apply! It has really helped me as I seek to truly absorb God’s Word! Thanks for sharing!

    Blessings, Joan

I used to use the SOAP method too! It’s easy to follow and gives great insight! I finished the entire Bible again last year…made me so happy as it had been a long, long time since I had accomplished that. You can do it!! 🙂
